TIGERVILLE, SC- North Greenville University shot 62.5% in the second half to defeat visiting Allen University 81-73 Wednesday night in Hayes Gymnasium. Austin Randel led all scorers with 25 points on 10-13 shooting. The Crusaders improves to 2-2 on the season.
Randel scored 18 of his points in the first half to carry the Crusaders to a 39-39 tie at the break. In the second half, Allen took an early eight point lead, but North Greenville fought back and tied the game at 53-53 at the 13:55 mark on a layup by Adam Griggs. The Crusaders finally took the lead at the 6:40 mark on two Josh Burgess free throws. Allen took the lead back on a 3-pointer by Martavious Wimberly, but Jordan Richmond answered for North Greenville with a triple of his own to give the Crusaders the lead for good.
Three other Crusaders scored in double-figures. Richmond finished the game with 19 points. Amonzo Gantt recorded a double-double in points and rebounds with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Gantt also recorded 8 assists. Burgess chipped in 13 points and 6 assists.
Allen was led by Karim Roderiguez who scored 21 points on 7-11 shooting, including six 3-point baskets. Michael Gamble hit 5-6 triples to score 19 points. Byron Littlejohn added 15 points for Allen.
North Greenville will be back in action Saturday night as they play host to Mars Hill College. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
