AIKEN, SC- Josh Burgess (Pickens, SC) nailed a three-pointer with 29 seconds left in the second half to tie the game at 58 points apiece and force USC-Aiken into an extra period of play. Once in overtime, North Greenville grabbed the lead on an Andrew Nipper (Cleveland , TN) jump shot and never trailed again en route to a 73-64 road victory over the Pacers.
Burgess and Amonzo Gantt (Royston, GA) both recorded double-doubles in points and rebounds to lead North Greenville. Each scored 21 points. Gantt hauled in 13 rebounds, while Burgess grabbed eleven. Nipper was an offensive force for the Crusaders as well, adding 18 points on 9-12 shooting.
Josh Poston led the Pacers in scoring for the second consecutive game by scoring 16 points. Richard Glover chipped in a career-high 12 points and pulled down eight rebounds, while Kingsley Oguchi added 14 points, including four three-pointers.
After nearly ten minutes of even play to begin the game, USC-Aiken found a groove and went on an 11-2 run. North Greenville would not back down, however, and fought back hard. PJ Schumacher (Waynesburg, PA) hit his only bucket of the night at the 4:05 mark in the first half to begin a 12-3 run to cut the lead to one point heading into halftime.
The Pacers got off to a hot start in the second half and held a seven point advantage with just three minutes to play. Gantt hit a jumper in the paint to cut the lead to five. After a scoreless minute and a half, Schumacher found Nipper down low for a basket that cut the lead to three. Burgess would sink a three-pointer with 29 second left to send the game to overtime, where the Crusaders pulled out the 73-64 victory.
North Greenville improves to 7-11, while the Pacers fall to 3-12. The Crusaders will be in action again Thursday night as they travel to Warren Wilson College. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
