Crusaders fall at Erskine

DUE WEST, SC—Fifteen different members of the Fleet saw action as Erskine cruised past the Crusaders of North Greenville University in a non-conference match Thursday night in Belk Arena. The Fleet improve to 7-7 overall with the win, while North Greenville drops to 5-11 on the season.

The Crusaders got on the board first with a lay-up by Josh Burgess followed by a field goal by Victor Duck for a 4-0 lead. Two buckets by Erskine’s Craig Williams started a 10-0 run for the Fleet and brought the score to 10-4 with 14:10 on the clock. The Crusaders weren’t ready to give up yet, though, as they took over the lead at 11-10 on a lay-up by Duck. The Fleet answered with another 10-0 run to lead 20-11 with under 10 minutes to play in the half. Erskine took a 35-26 advantage into the locker room at intermission.

A lay-up by Dan Marsella gave the Fleet their largest lead of the game at 64-42 with 5:00 to play in the game. NGU pulled within 15 on a 3-pointer by Duck with 1:35 to go, but could not cut the margin to single digits.

Junior Reed Long’s 18 points paced the Fleet, followed by Craig Williams’ 12. Lindo Sibankulu also put up double digits, scoring 10 points on the night.

Victor Duck scored a game-high 19 points for the Crusaders, while Jordan Richmond added another 11.

Erskine shot 51% (25/49) from the field and 52% (13/25) from behind the arc.

North Greenville will be back in action on Monday as they host Mars Hill in Hayes Gymnasium
