Men's basketball falls to Limestone 63-57

GAFFNEY, S.C The Limestone mens basketball team beat North Greenville, 63-57, on Saturday night at the Timken Center. With their first home win of the season, the Saints climb to 3-4 overall while the Crusaders drop to 1-7.

Limestone senior Marquintus Jones and junior Shawn Poppie both scored in double figures as Jones scored 16 points and Poppie added 10 more. Jones was 100% from the free throw line, going 6-for-6. Jones had a game-high six assists. Poppie had a game-high eight rebounds. Limestone had a free-throw percentage of 68.4, tallying 13 points from free throws. The Saints also had 30 points from three-pointers, as Poppie, Jones, junior Alex Bailey freshman Andre Coleman, and sophomore Antonio Golden each nailed two three-pointers a piece.

North Greenville out rebounded the Saints, 35-26. North Greenville was 100% from the line, nailing four free-throws. The Crusaders had three players score in double figures: Josh Burgess (14), PJ Schumacher (13), and Andrew Nipper (12).

There was only one lead change in the first period, but Limestone was up 35-27 going into the second half. The Saints never gave up the lead. North Greenville started to make a comeback in the final minutes of the game, but Limestone came away with the win, 63-57

The Crusaders return to action Monday night at UNC-Pembroke.
