TIGERVILLE, SC- Junior guard PJ Schumacher went on a tear hitting four three-pointers within a two and a half-minute span late in the first half to spark the Crusaders as they defeated Brevard College 74-51 Thursday night in Hayes Gymnasium. The Tornados kept the game close for the first fifteen minutes, but then Schumacher hit his second three-pointer of the night with 4:25 left in the first. By the time he finished fitting the team's next three shots, all three-pointers, North Greenville held a 33-19 advantage. The Crusaders ended the half on a 16-3 run to give North Greenville a 37-21 halftime lead.
The game would never get closer than 6 points the rest of the night. The Crusaders held a 51-41 lead with just under nine minutes to play. They would end the night on a 23-10 run. Jordan Richmond had 13 of those points within a two and a half-minute span. The junior forward had a huge night, scoring 16 points on 6-12 shooting. Schumacher led the Crusaders with a game-high 19 points and eight rebounds. Also scoring in double-figures was point guard Victor Duck who punched in ten. Cory McAlphin led the Tornados with 17 points, while Rashad Mosley added 12.
North Greenville's achilles' heel against Tusculum was turnovers. Tonight, the Crusaders won the turnover battle by forcing 15 turnovers and only turning it over themselves 11 times. North Greenville also capitalized by converting Tornado turnovers into 22 points. North Greenville's bench also outscored Brevard 18-7.
North Greenville improves to 1-1, while Brevard falls to 1-3. The Crusaders will travel to Newberry Saturday night for a 4:00 p.m. tipoff.
