Bob Price is now in his second year as an assistant coach in charge of North Greenville’s kickers, punters, and long snappers.

In 2007, Price coached two-time All-Southern Conference choice Scott Beckler who wrapped up his career as Furman’s all-time leading kick scorer (314 points), eclipsing the previous mark of 312 points set by another Price understudy, Danny Marshall (2000-03).  In 2005 Price worked with All-America punter Ingle Martin, who averaged a Southern Conference leading 43.2 yards punt.

His most recent kicker, Ray Early, Prices third All American at Furman, is currently kicking for the Saskatchewan Rough Riders of the Canadian Football league.  Prices kickers are known for breaking multiple records including all-time leading scorers at Furman. All four of the kickers are the top four leading scorers at Furman.

A Greer, S.C., native, Price’s coaching career now spans more than a quarter century since accepting his first job as an assistant coach at Watauga (N.C.) High School in 1981.  In 1982, he returned to the Palmetto State as an assistant coach at Blue Ridge High School, where he remained for one year.  In 1983 he accepted an assistant head coaching position at J.L. Mann High School, serving as the Patriots’ offensive coordinator for six seasons.  In 1989 he moved into the head coaching ranks at nearby Hillcrest High School, where he also served as athletic director through the 1992 season before returning to J.L. Mann as an assistant.

A 1977 graduate of Greenville County’s Riverside High School, he punted at Lees McRae (N.C.) Junior College and later at Appalachian State University before earning his bachelor’s degree from ASU in physical education in 1981.

Price came to North Greenville from Furman University where he coached for 16 years.

Price and his wife, Jonie James, formerly of Travelers Rest, have a son, Ethan and a daughter, Katelin, both of which graduated from North Greenville University.
