Birmingham – Aaron Watson will enter the 2019 season as the first player named to a Gulf South Conference pre-season All-Conference nod as he was voted by coaches as one of the best defensive backs in the league.
Watson checked off several firsts for the program last season, garnering First-Team All-Conference and First-Team All-Region after turning in one of the best seasons by a GSC defensive back. Watson was also named a Don Hansen All-American.
Watson finished 2018 with six interceptions in the regular season, leading all Gulf South Conference defenders, ranking him top-five in the nation in pre-season picks and tied for ninth in Division II with almost one INT per contest. One of his best performances of the season came against shorter when the sophomore picked off two passes and also had a break-up.
In all 11-games this season, Watson finished with six interceptions, eight breakups and 27.5 – tackles. Watson also helped with returns this season and finished with 144 all-purpose yards.
