NGU Football opens camp under soggy conditions

Tigerville, S.C. – A couple of rainy days hasn’t stopped North Greenville football from getting in early season work as the Crusaders opened up pre-season camp on Monday evening in Younts Stadium.

The Crusaders braved some soggy weather as they opened up drills in preparation for the 2017 home opener scheduled for August 31st against Tusculum College. A Thursday night kickoff in Tigerville.

Head coach Jeff Farrington who enters his fifth season in Tigerville was pleased with his team’s effort on day one, despite the weather. “I was very pleased with the energy and enthusiasm last night which is what you expect during the first practice of the season,” remarked Farrington. “Glad we were able to get in a full two hours of work with the weather situation without any sort of delay.”

Monday’s first workout was one of two walk-throughs with just helmets before the team puts on shoulder pads for the first time on Wednesday. The first practice with full pads is scheduled for Friday.

“It was good to have our offense out there with 10-starters back. It will be interesting to see how competition develops through the installation phase of camp, in all areas.” Coach Farrington and his staff will be looking to fill several gaps on defense as several defenders graduated after the 2016 season. “We also need to find guys on our coverage teams in the kicking game as well as punt and kickoff returners.”

The Crusaders will continue their fall preparations on Tuesday morning with a 9:55 first whistle. The team has three scrimmages scheduled during camp, the dates can be found below.
