Tigerville, S.C. - The NGU football team was well represented on this season's All-NCCAA team as Ashton Heard earned a First Teams nod while Nelson Hughes and Micheal Thomas were honored with Second Team selections.
Ashton Heard earned his first All-NCCAA nod after putting together a career season in 2015. The junior from Abbeville rushed for 1,136 yards this season on 192 attempts making him the first 1,000-yard rusher for NGU since the 2007 season. Heard also led the the Crusaders in rushing touchdowns as he found the end zone seven times. He also caught 16 passes for 262 yards and a score. The dynamic runner broke the single game rushing record with 315 yards against Tusculum and was named the NCCAA Player of the Week and the "Stud of the Week" by Hero Sports.
Nelson Hughes was honored by the NCCAA for his solid 2015 season after leading North Greenville to an 8-3 mark, the team's best record since 2011. The senior signal caller amassed 2,150 yards through the air this season and capped the year with 22 touchdowns. Hughes finished the season with a 154.2 passing efficiency, ranking him 15th in all of division II football. He also completed 63.6 percent of his passes, ranking him 18th.
Micheal Thomas rounded out North Greenville's All-NCCAA selections as he earned a second team nod for his work at center. Thomas led the North Greenville offensive line in knock down blocks with 37 in his 11 games started. The redshirt freshman also led the Crusader front five, grading out at an average of 90 percent this season. The NGU offense averaged 433-yards a game this season including a 208 average on the ground while scoring 32 points per game.
