Greenville, S.C.—The accolades continue to roll in for NGU running back Ashton Heard, who was named the National Christian Collegiate Athletic Association "Offensive Player of the Week" today, after his record breaking performance on Saturday.
The junior from Abbeville, South Carolina racked up 315 yards rushing and two touchdowns Saturday, leading the Crusaders to a 35-24 win over Tusculum College of the South Atlantic Conference. Heard beat out the likes of seven other players who also put together standout performances. 218 of his 315 yards came in the first half.
Ashton Heard started the season fourth on the depth chart, but quickly cemented himself as the starter at the tailback position after rushing for 177-yards against sixth ranked Lenoir-Rhyne. He now has 850 yards on the season to go along with six touchdowns. The 300+ yards on Saturday were a single game record as well as a career high.
