North Greenville's defensive backfield got some help this week with the signing of Johnny Worthy from Mount Dora High School in Mount Dora, Florida.
In his decorated career at Mount Dora High School, Worthy was a standout on both sides of the football. He was selected as the Offensive Player of the Year in 2014, 2015, and 2016 while also being selected as the Defensive Back of the Year in 2015. As a corner, Worthy totaled 115 tackles, 10 interceptions, and returned 2 interceptions for touchdowns over the course of two years. After his senior campaign, Worthy was selected to participate in the 2016 Central Florida All Star Game. Johnny is also a standout basketball player for the Mount Dora High School Hurricanes.
Coach Duncan on Johnny: “Johnny is a physical, explosive, playmaker in the secondary. He does a nice job of getting in and out of his breaks & has the ability to flip his hips and run with WRs. He does a great job reading the quarterback's eyes and breaks quickly on the football. He is comfortable in man or zone coverage and is very aggressive. Johnny has a knack for the football and will continue to develop as he gets stronger in the weight room. We are excited to have him.”
