Tigerville, SC - With Saturday's 34-14 victory over Newberry College, the North Greenville University team was selected to participate in the 2014 Victory Bowl hosted by the National Christian Collegiate Athletic Association (NCCAA) in Rome, GA.
The Crusaders (6-5) will face off against Shorter University (3-7) a first-year member of the NCAA Division II Gulf South Conference on Saturday, Nov. 22 at Noon. Head coach Jeff Farrington and his staff received the news on Saturday evening, just hours after they thought their season was over.
The matchup between the Crusaders and Hawks will be second in series history as Shorter earned a 37-21 victory in 2008 on their home field. This will be Shorter's first appearance in the NCCAA Victory Bowl, while North Greenville is making its fourth such appearance, having won the trophy in both 2006 and 2010.
The event kicks off Thursday when the two teams are treated to a barbeque dinner hosted by Score International at Barron Stadium, and on Friday they take part in the 2014 Victory Bowl Championship Breakfast presented by Chick-fil-A and held at the Winthrop-King Centre at Shorter, after which the players will spread out across Rome for an NCCAA Christian Service Project to take part in a canned-food drive to benefit local community organizations.
Following a walk-though at Barron in the afternoon, Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church will host North Greenville for dinner, while the Shorter School of Business will host the Hawks.
Tickets for the game are $15 and will be available at the Barron ticket booth the day of the game. The NCCAA will also be video streaming the game for a nominal fee through LIVE! Tourbeau Sports at http://client.stretchinternet.com/client/tourbeau.portal.
