Tigerville, SC – Former North Greenville linebacker Jonathon Sharpe will have his chance to make an National Football League (NFL) roster for the 2014-15 season, after signing an free agent contract with the Indianapolis Colts of the National Football League.
The 6-0 235lb Sharpe was signed as a free agent by the Seattle Seahawks in 2013 and participated in camp but was cut shortly before the season began. Sharpe was a two-year starter at North Greenville after transferring from Wofford College in 2011.
The senior from Conway, South Carolina opened the eyes of some NFL scouts during a postseason combine after his senior season, running an official 4.39 during a pro-day set up by the South Carolina College All Star bowl, which was hosted by North Greenville University.
Sharpe was one of the leaders on the Crusader defense in his two years on the team, racking up 132 tackles, including 23.5 for a loss, 5.5 sacks, and three interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown.
The Colts open up preseason play on Thursday, August 7 at 7 p.m. against the New York Jets.
