Tigerville, SC – Despite signing a new head football just days ago, the North Greenville University football team has managed to sign nine players to National Letters of Intent over the past three days.
New head coach Jeff Farrington is currently working on hiring a full staff while diligently working on signing recruits and building a quality class for the 2013 season. All nine players currently committed to the Crusaders are from the state of South Carolina.
North Greenville Football 2013 Signing Day Class:
Sam Houston-6’1”, 215 lbs-Linebacker-Easley High School
Houston was a three-year starter for the Green Wave where he played middle linebacker for the 4A school. As a senior, he racked up 88 total tackles, including four tackles for loss, four fumble recoveries, three forced fumbles and one interception. Houston earned the team defensive MVP three years in a row as a sophomore, junior and senior, while also earning All-Region honors in his senior season.
Anthony Blair-6’3”, 240 lbs-Defensive Tackle-Georgetown High School
Blair, a participant in the North-South Game, finished his senior season with 85 tackles, including a stellar 16.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks. The Bulldogs’ Defensive Player of the Year and Team MVP also recorded three fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles, earning First Team All-Region honors in Region 3A.
Aaron Broadwater -6’4”, 195 lbs -Wide Receiver-Greenwood High School
In his senior season, Broadwater was a pivotal component in leading his team to an undefeated season and a 4A State Championship. He totaled 26 receptions for 519 yards and five touchdowns, leading the team in all receiving categories while also earning All-Region honors.
Johnny Burch-6’4”, 230 lbs-Defensive End-St. John’s High School
Burch was a Second Team All-Low County Selection and participated in the North-South Game in his senior season as he recorded 62 total tackles. He also totaled eight tackles for loss, six sacks and two fumble recoveries for the Islanders.
Roderick McCray-5’10” 180 lbs-Safety-Timberland High School
McCray, a 2A State Champion at Timberland High School, played quarterback, running back and safety for the Wolves, becoming the first person in school history to score in five different ways. He also earning All-Low Country and All-State honors as a senior and participating in the North-South game where he recorded an interception.
Renwick McNeil-5’10” 260-Defensive Tackle-Ridge View High School
A three-year starter for the Blazers, McNeil totaled 89 tackles as a senior, leading the team with 16.5 tackles for loss and 11.5 sacks, including five sacks against rival Spring Valley, while also being selected as the team’s Defensive MVP.
Zach Richter -5’10”, 190 lbs-Linebacker-Bishop England High School
A two-time 1A State Champion, Richter totaled 130 tackles, including 10 tackles for a loss as a senior member of the Bishops.
RaShaun Brown-6’0”, 225 lbs-Defensive Tackle-Wando High School
Shamal Sanders-6’3”, 230 lbs-Defensive End-York High School
