Tigerville, S.C.—The North Greenville football team will start the 2012 season in a familiar fashion, making history. For the first time ever the Crusaders will open the season ranked in the top 25 of the 2012 American Football Coaches Association Preseason Division II Coaches Poll.
The Crusaders, after finishing the 2011 season ranked 10th following a run in the Division II playoffs, find themselves in the 23rd spot to start the 2012 season. The Crusaders look to have a strong team in 2012 despite the loss of several key seniors from the 2011 squad.
“This is a great indication of what the staff and players before us have accomplished,” remarked head coach Carroll McCray. 2011 National Champion Pittsburg State snags the top spot while Delta State rings in at the 14th spot.
Also making an appearance in the pre-season rankings are the Golden Rams of Albany State in the 22nd spot. The Crusaders and Rams will open the season on September 1st at 7pm in Albany, Georgia, a rematch of last seasons opening round playoff game.
