Davonte Alexander- Defensive Back- Lugoff-Elgin High School- Lugoff, SC- 5’10- 175 -An explosive athlete with tremendous potential in the Defensive Backfield. Starred for coach Scott Jones at Lugoff-Elgin High School as both a Cornerback and Wide Receiver. Earned All-Region accolades as a Senior and led the Demons to the South Carolina state playoffs in his junior and senior seasons. Finished his career with eight interceptions and was named the team’s Most Valuable Wide Receiver during his three years on the varsity squad. Also stars on the Basketball and Track teams, where he was a Regional Participant in the Long Jump and Triple Jump. Davonte plans to study Computer Science at NGU. Parents are Jimmy and Latonya Atkins.
Jacob Buckley- Punter- Dorman High School- Spartanburg, SC- 6’0-180- A member of Dorman’s 2009 Class AAAA State Championship squad. Reliable specialist who averaged 37.7 yards per punt and handled holding duties for coach David Gutshall and the Cavaliers. A first team All-Area selection and a preseason All- State recipient. Also excels off the field as a member of the Beta Club, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and Boys State. Possesses a 3.9 Grade Point Average. Teammate of fellow NGU signee, Jake Morris. Parents are Seth and Robin Buckley.
Ty Byrd¬- Defensive Back- Spartanburg High School- Spartanburg, SC- 6’0-180- Big hitting safety for coach Freddy Brown at tradition-rich Spartanburg High School. A three year starter for the Vikings who accumulated 250 tackles, seven interceptions, and eight blocked punts. Led Spartanburg to the third round of the state playoffs. An All-Area and All-Region 2 AAAA performer. Parents are Danny Byrd and Reca Savage.
Joey Carter- Quarterback- Ben Lippen High School- Columbia, SC- 6’1- 180- A decorated signal caller who owns every major passing record at Ben Lippen High School. In two years for coach Reggie Shaw and the Falcons, Carter amassed 5,125 yards and 43 touchdowns through the air. A dual threat, Carter added 1,133 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns in that same time period. The Falcons made the state playoffs in each of Carter’s years on the varsity squad. An Oasis Shrine Bowl participant and two time All-State performer according to the South Carolina Sports Report, Carter also earned All-Region and All-State Honorable Mention two times according to The State in Columbia. In addition to Football, Carter excels as a pitcher and outfielder for the Falcon baseball team where he has twice been selected as All-Region. High School teammate of fellow NGU signee, Andre Hennie. Has a 3.7 GPA. Joey plans to study Biology at NGU. Parents are Kenny and Bebe Carter.
Armani Delaney- Offensive Line- Rock Hill High School- Rock Hill, SC- 6’4-255- A fixture on the Offensive Line for coach Joe Montgomery at powerful Rock Hill High School. Helped lead Rock Hill to an undefeated regular season and a berth in the state playoffs. Graded out at 90% for his senior year on the gridiron. Earned the team’s Offensive Lineman of the Year award as a senior. A two time All-Region performer who possesses great athleticism for an offensive lineman. Undecided on his intended major. The son of Tiffany Brown.
Mitchell De-WALT- Defensive Line- Buford High School- Norcross, GA- 5’9- 265- A standout in one of Georgia’s best High School football programs. A Gwinnett County All-Star Selection for coach Jess Simpson. De-WALT accumulated 5 Sacks, 30 Tackles, 10 TFL’s, and 2 fumbles forced in a dominant senior campaign that led the Wolves to a third consecutive State Championship. A projected Nose Guard in the Crusaders 3-4 Defense. Undecided in his intended major. Parents are Mitchell and Rachael De-WALT.
Zach Epting- Defensive Line- Clinton High School- Joanna, SC- 6’3-240- An anchor on both the defensive and offensive line for coach Andy Young at Clinton High School. A three year starter who helped the Red Devils to two Region Championships and the 2009 State Championship. All-Conference performer on the Defensive Line who earned the respect of the coaching staff by being named Player of the Week twice during his senior season. Epting also throws the Discus for the school’s track team and was the conference runner up last spring. Also a strong student with a GPA near 4.0. Plans to study Sports Management at NGU. The son of Melissa Epting.
Jacob Farley- Offensive Line- Allan Hancock College-Lompoc, C 6’3- 270- Mid-Year Transfer who will be counted on immediately on the Crusader Offensive Line. Two time All-League performer for coach Don Cross at Cabrillo High School. Possesses good feet and a strong upper body. One of two current Crusaders from the state of California. Parents are Paul and Catherine Farley.
David Helms- Offensive Line- Blythewood High School- Blythewood, SC- 6’5-255- Two year starter for coach Geremy Saitz at Blythewood High School. Anchored down the Right Tackle position for the Bengals for twenty-three consecutive games and helped Blythewood to a playoff appearance in 2009. A team captain and recipient of the team’s Coaches Award given for hard work and dedication toward the football program. Possesses good feet and strong potential. Plans to study Applied Mathematics at NGU. The son of Betty Helms.
Andre Hennie- Defensive Back- Ben Lippen High School- Ridgeway, SC- 5’10- 180- Versatile athlete for coach Reggie Shaw at Ben Lippen High School. Led BLHS to consecutive playoff appearences in his junior and senior seasons. Started three years at cornerback and tailback for the Falcons. Finished an outstanding career with eight interceptions and a selection to the Oasis Shrine Bowl. Accumulated All-Region accolades as a Defensive Back, Runningback, and Return Specialist. Played basketball as well at Ben Lippen. High School teammate of fellow NGU signee, Joey Carter. Plans to major in Sports Management. The son of Brenda Hennie.
Raheem Hughes- Defensive Back- Chesnee High School- Chesnee, SC- 5’10-175- A two-way standout for coach Brent Bridges at Chesnee High School. Helped lead Chesnee to the state playoffs in 2009. Finished his career as an All-Region, and All-State performer. Had over 1,000 career yards receiving and ten interceptions. Named Chesnee High School Team MVP as a senior. Plans to study Education at NGU. The son of Tammy Hughes.
Ryan Jackson- Defensive Line- Liberty- Travelers Rest, SC- 6’4-235- Mid-year transfer from Liberty University. Highly recruited standout in both football and wrestling at Brookville High School for coach Jeff Woody.. A two time All-State, All-Conference, and All-District selection in both sports. Also garnered All-American status in wrestling. Parents are Rob and Tammy Jackson.
Michael Klein- Defensive Line- Wando High School- Mt. Pleasant, SC- 6’3-245- An athletic Defensive Lineman that will give the NGU coaching staff plenty of options. Two time All-Region and All-County performer for coach Jimmy Noonan at Wando High School. Also selected to the prestigious South Carolina North-South All-Star game. A remarkable senior season in which he reeled in 97 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles and two sacks. In addition to football, Klein is a standout All-State performer in track throwing the Shot Put. Plans to study Applied Mathematics at NGU. Parents are Wilson and Carol Klein.
Calvin Lee- Defensive Line- T.L. Hanna High School- Anderson, SC- 6’0- 295- A dynamic, strong interior defensive lineman from South Carolina’s upstate. Played for coach Kenya Fouch at T.L. Hanna High School where he anchored the Yellow Jacket Defensive Line with 58 tackles and five sacks during his 2009 senior campaign. A recruited Track star, Lee won the Regional Championship in the shot-put with a personal best 53’7”. Plans to study Computer Science at NGU. Parents are Tracy and Craig Donald.
Quantel Mack- Defensive Back- Williston-Elko High School- 5’10-170- Led Williston-Elko to the Division 1 Class A State Championship as a two-way standout for coach Dwayne Garrick. Named All-Area by the Augusta Chronicle. Garnered All-Region and All-State accolades according to the Region’s coaches. Mack was also the Class A State Back of the Year and the Regional Defensive Back of the year. The 2009 season was a special one for Mack, the versatile senior had three interceptions, twenty two receptions and seven offensive touchdowns. A four year member of the basketball and baseball teams for the Blue Devils as well. A well-rounded student who is a member of the BETA club and Palmetto Boys State. Mack is also a Junior Scholar and an All-State Academic Selection. Possesses a 3.5 Grade Point Average. Plans to major in Sports Management. Parents are Andre Mack and Angela Owens.
Freddie Martino- Wide Receiver- North High School- North, SC- 5’11- 175- Sure handed athlete who has amassed over 2,500 hundred yards of total offense and 25 touchdowns during his career as a Receiver and Quarterback at North High School for coach Demond Logan. Also excelled as a Defensive Back for the Eagles accumulating 13 interceptions in a four year varsity career. An All-Region, All-Area, and All-State performer who earned Defensive Player of the Year accolades as well. Selected to the South Carolina North-South All-Star Game. Should fit in nicely with NGU’s spread offense. A four sport athlete, Martino is also an All-Region, All-Area, and All-State performer in Baseball and Track in addition to being on the North basketball squad. An All-State Academic and South Carolina High School Scholar Athlete selection, Martino is currently ranked number one in his class. Plans to major in Accounting and study Computer Science at NGU. Parents are Freddie Martino and Yolanda Miller.
Braelen Meredith- Defensive Line/Linebacker- Woodruff High School- Woodruff, SC- 6’2-240- Sure tackler for coach Brian Lang at Woodruff High School. Meredith accumulated over three hundred tackles for the Wolverines in just two years of varsity experience. A remarkable senior campaign included 170 tackles, 19 tackles for loss, two sacks, and one interception. Also led Woodruff to an undefeated regular season and a berth in the state playoffs. An All-Region, All-Area, and All-State selection as both a sophomore and senior at Woodruff. A standout in the classroom as well, Meredith currently sports a 3.99 GPA. Plans to major in Sports Management or Business at NGU. The son of Sheila Meredith.
Eric Mitchell- Defensive Line- Peachtree Ridge High School- Suwanee, GA- 6’0-220- Rush End with tremendous potential in NGU’s 3-4 Defense. Played for coach Bill Ballard at Peachtree Ridge High School. A state playoff participant in 2009. Gathered in 52 tackles, 15 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks that led to a selection on the Gwinnett County All-Star Team. Plans to major in Business. Parents are Edward Mit¬¬¬¬¬¬¬chell and Sherrie Noble.
Jake Morris- Offensive Line- Dorman High- Spartanburg, SC- 6’2- 250- An anchor in the middle of Dorman High School’s offensive line. Morris helped lead coach David Gutshall’s Cavaliers to the Class AAAA State Championship. Two time selection as ESPN 1400 Hog of the Week, 2009 All-Area and All-Region first team selection. Accumulated a 35-5 record as a starter in three years of varsity participation. Has competed in Track at Dorman where he throws both the Shot Put and the Discus. Plans to major in History Education at NGU. Parents are Diane and Bobby Morris.
Kyle Peck- Runningback- George Jenkins High School- Lakeland, FL- 5’8- 170- Quick twitched athlete that possesses good speed and great hands out of the backfield. Played for coach Pat Dooley at George Jenkins High School. Garnered All-Conference and Offensive MVP awards as a senior. Projected as a Slotback in NGU’s spread offense. A 4.2 student who plans to major in Applied Mathematics. Parents are Ron and Tracy Peck.
Teryan Rucker- Runningback/Slot Receiver- Gainesville High School- Gainesville, GA-5’9-185- Big-play Runningback from Gainesville High School where he starred for coach Bruce Miller. Rucker rushed for 1,373 yards and 18 touchdowns in a senior campaign that ended with a 13-1 record and a deep run in the Georgia State Playoffs. An All-Region selection as a Kick Returner and Runningback, Rucker possesses game-changing speed that also makes him a star on the schools track squad. Personal best in the 100 meters is 10.7 seconds. Plans to major in education at NGU. Raised by Val Williams.
Paul Scott- Defensive Back- Byrnes High School- Lyman, SC- 6’1- 180- A two-time State and Regional Champion at local power Byrnes High School for coach Chris Miller. Twice voted Byrnes Defensive Back of the week and was the Zaxby’s Player of the Week six times. Possesses good football sense and speed. South Carolina Scholar-Athlete who owns a 3.8 GPA. Has competed in baseball, wrestling, and track while at Byrnes High School. Undecided in his intended major. Parents are Andy and Tawana Scott.
Trey Walpole- Kicker/Punter- Southside Christian- Easley, SC- 5’10-175- Played for coach Steve Lockwood at nearby Southside Christian Academy. Made seven of eight field goal attempts with a long of 45 yards in his senior season. Also a member of the soccer squad at Southside Christian and has been selected for the Christian Character and Leadership Award. Has a 3.75 GPA. Parents are Dr. Chip and DeAnn Walpole.
Jonathan White- Defensive Line- Cheraw High School- Cheraw, SC- 6’2-240- Decorated high school player from traditional power Cheraw High School where he played for his uncle Johnny White. Won both Regional and State Championships as a player at Cheraw. A two way standout who has earned accolades on both the offensive side of the ball as a Tight End and as a Defensive Lineman. An All-State selection for consecutive years and the Regional Defensive Player of the Year as a Senior. White has added numerous All-Region and All-Area accomplishments as well as being selected to the prestigious South Carolina North-South Game. Totaled 65 tackles, eight tackles for loss, six sacks, and a fumble recovery in a dominant senior season. Hauled in eight receptions for 167 yards and three touchdowns at Tight End. Also plays baseball at CHS where he was All-Region as a Junior. Plans to study Education or Mass Communications at North Greenville. Parents are Jimmy and Lyall White.
