CRUSADERS DROPPED BY BUCS

Summerville, S.C.-

After a tough Saturday in Hickory last week, the Crusaders looked to this week against Charleston Southern to get that elusive first win of the 2009 season. Standing in NGU’s was FCS (formally Division I-AA) foe Charleston Southern (0-3). The Crusaders were unable to leave Summerville with the victory however losing to the Bucs 34-0.

Both teams entered today’s game winless on the season. Charleston Southern ‘s 0-3 is a bit deceiving however. The Bucs have played two games against FBS (formally Division I-A) opponents in the University of South Florida, and number 1 ranked Florida Gators, as well as a game against the Wofford Terriers who are ranked in the top 25 in the FCS.

The Crusaders’ offense started the day off strong picking up a first down on the first drive. CSU would then force the Crusaders to punt. NGU’s defense would hold Charleston Southern to only 3 points in the first quarter, allowing 90 yards of total offense. Going into halftime, CSU was up 17-0.

Charleston Southern would take the second half opening kickoff and drive 40 yards to kick a 40 yard field goal making the score 20-0. CSU would add two more touchdowns in the second half to make the final 34-0. The Bucs racked up 516 yards of total offense compared to the Crusaders 90 yards of total offense. The Win for the Bucs makes the series record 9-1 in favor of CSU.

The Crusaders next game will be Saturday October 3rd at 3pm in Jacksonville against Edward Waters.
