First year football Coach Jamey Chadwell will put his North Greenville University Crusaders on the home turf of Younts Stadium for their first scrimmage of the year Saturday, Aug. 15 at 7:30 p.m. in Tigerville.
The scrimmage is free and open to the public and the NGU community.
Chadwell, who assumed the duties at NGU this past February, says Crusader fans can come out and get their first look at the 2009 team. “We have established “Strike the Stone” as our theme for the year and this will be our first blow,” Chadwell said. “What that means is when you are hammering a rock, and you hit it 100 times, it is eventually going to break,” Chadwell said. “It doesn’t break because of the 100th blow, but from the constant pressure you’ve put on it. Our program will be built on the belief that we will maintain pressure on our opponents and they will ultimately break and fall.”
North Greenville opened fall drills Monday, Aug. 10, and the scrimmage will culminate the first week of practice as Chadwell installs the spread offense and gets a look at his veteran defense.
The Crusaders open the 2009 season Saturday, Aug. 29 by hosting Mars Hill College at 7:00 p.m. at Younts Stadium.
