TIGERVILLE, SC- North Greenville head football coach Mike Taylor was tabbed South Carolina Coach of the Year by The State newspaper Thursday. The newspaper presented its first all-star team comprised of players from South Carolina's football-playing schools.
Defensive end Andre Bernardi was also honored by The State as a first-team defensive selection. Bernardi led NCAA II with 28.5 tackles for a loss and finished fourth in pass sacks with 14.5.
Taylor, in his second stint with the Crusaders, guided his team to a school record ten wins and a Victory Bowl win. Taylor's offense included two 1,000 yard rushers, the #1 total offensive team in NCAA II, and the #3 scoring offense in NCAA II.
Bernardi joined players such as Clemson's NFL-bound and ACC defensive player of the year Gaines Adams, Dorrell Scott (Clemson), and Jasper Brinkley (USC) on the first-team defense. The first-team offense featured such notables as Clemson's James Davis and USC's Sidney Rice.
