Crusaders upend Dolphins 41-6
WR Brandon Dobbins scored 2 TDs in the Crusaders' 41-6 win over Jacksonville

TIGERVILLE, SC- NCCAA #1 ranked North Greenville University got revenge Saturday night at Younts Stadium with a 41-6 victory over visiting Division I-AA Jacksonville University. Last year, the Dolphins downed the Crusaders 52-13 in Jacksonville. This season, however, is a new team and a new story, as the Crusaders amassed 430 yards of total offense, while holding Jacksonville to 287.

Quarterback Eric Moeller led the offensive attack for NGU. Moeller completed 19 of 26 passes for 186 yards and three touchdowns. Two of those touchdown passes were to Brandon Dobbins, who caught 4 passes for 54 yards. Joseph Rowe made 6 receptions for 74 yards, while Travis Talbert extended his consecutive game reception streak to 20 with 5 catches for 46 yards and a touchdown.

Rashad Cummings led the rushing attack with 119 yards on 10 carries, including a long rush of 77 yards. Matt Moore rushed 14 times for 75 yards and a touchdown.

Jacksonville was offensively by quarterback Chris Horton, who completed 13 of 31 passes for 167 yards. Running back Jerry Brant ran for 85 yards on 23 carries. Nate Connor caught 5 passes for 40 yards to lead the Dolphin receiving corps.

Defensively, the Crusaders played intense and quick to the ball. North Greenville did not allow a touchdown. Safety Josh Williams and defensive end Ken Floyd led the team in total tackles with 13 each. Floyd also recorded 2.5 tackles for a loss. Linebacker Doug Wilson and defensive end Andre Bernardi each recorded 7 total tackles. Bernardi also made 2.5 tackles for a loss.

Jacksonville lit up the scoreboard first with a 32-yard field goal by Donovan Curry at the 7:16 mark in the first quarter. On the ensuing possession, the Crusaders drove the ball 70 yards in 11 plays. Moore scored from one yard out to give the Crusaders the early lead. Adrian Escalona's PAT made the score 7-0.

Escalona would be the only one to score for the remainder of the first half, adding two field goals. Escalona hit from 33-yards with 13:26 left in the second quarter and then from 23 yards at the 6:44 mark. North Greenville took a 13-3 lead into halftime.

The Crusaders jumped out early in the second half, forcing Jacksonville to punt on their first possession. However, Ken Floyd raced through the Dolphin line and blocked the punt. Three plays later, Moeller found Dobbins in the end zone for a 7-yard touchdown strike. Escalona's PAT gave NGU a 20-3 advantage.

The Dolphins would score again on another Curry field goal, this one from 35 yards out to make the score 20-6 with 6:08 left in the third quarter. Then, at the 2:18 mark, Moeller found Dobbins in the end zone again for a 36-yard touchdown connection. Escalona added the PAT.

The Crusader defense got in on the scoring action in the fourth quarter as cornerback Derrick Miller picked up a Jacksonville fumble and took it 48 yards for the touchdown. Escalona's PAT gave NGU a 34-6 lead.

Travis Talbert rounded out the scoring on a 4-yard touchdown reception from Moeller to cap a 4-play, 88-yard drive that was aided by a 77-yard run by Cummings. Escalona's PAT made the score its final of 41-6.

North Greenville improves to 7-2 on the season, while Jacksonville falls to 4-4. The Crusaders will travel to Austin Peay State University next Saturday. Kickoff is slated for 2:00 p.m. Central Time Zone.
