Crusaders light up the scoreboard and Younts Stadium

TIGERVILLE, SC- Let there be light.

North Greenville University played its first game under the new lights at Younts Stadium tonight before a crowd of 2,583. The Crusaders did not disappoint the Crusader faithful as they also lit up the scoreboard with 35 points to defeat the University of the Cumberlands 35-7.

Eric Moeller led the Crusaders with 14 of 22 passing for 190 yards and two touchdowns. Matt Moore rushed for 79 yards and a touchdown. Wide receiver Travis Talbert caught 5 passes for 75 yards and one touchdown.

However, it was a stifling Crusader defense that made the difference in Tigerville Saturday night. North Greenville surrendered only 179 yards and seven points. "This was the second week in a row that we held our opponent to seven points," noted head coach Mike Taylor. "Our guys did a great job playing assignments and got the job done."

Derek White really got the job done from the linebacker position. White recorded three solo tackles, ten assists, and a half-sack. Andre Bernardi finished with five solos, five assists, and a sack. Josh Williams added an interception.

North Greenville struck first as Moeller found Jarvis Garrett in the end zone for 6-yard touchdown on the Crusaders opening drive. Adrian Escalona added the PAT to give North Greenville a 7-0 lead.

The NGU defense forced the Patriots to punt on the next drive. The Crusaders then drove 80 yards in six plays to take a 14-0 lead. Matt Moore rushed from seven yards out for the second score. Esalona added the PAT.

Late in the first quarter, Rashad Cummings dashed in the end zone from four yards out. Escalona's PAT gave the Crusaders a 21-0 advantage. Tim Brown added the next touchdown with a 6-yard run at the 11:39 mark in the second quarter. Escalona added yet another PAT and NGU took a 28-0 lead.

Weston Casey put the Patriots on the board late in the second quarter with an 8-yard rushing touchdown to cap a 16-play, 80-yard drive. Andrew Carr added the PAT. North Greenville took a 28-7 lead into halftime.

Travis Talbert scored the lone touchdown on the second half with 2:26 remaining in the third quarter. Moeller connected with Talbert for a 33-yard touchdown strike. Escalona's PAT made the score its final of 35-7.

North Greenville improves to 2-1, while the Patriots fall to 1-1. The Crusaders be in action next Saturday night as they play host to Edward Waters University. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. at Younts Stadium.
