Utah Jones has been selected by the Seattle Mariners in the 29th round of the 2019 MLB Draft as the 876th overall pick. Jones is the third Crusader to be drafted this year and is the second to be chosen by the Mariners.
Jones arrived at North Greenville as a transfer from the University of North Carolina. After a strong junior year, Jones concluded his collegiate career in historic fashion, finishing his senior season with a .403 AVG and 85 hits including 21 doubles, 5 home runs, and 52 RBIs. He also led the team with a .492 on base perentage. These numbers earned him the accolades of Conference Carolinas 1st Team All-Conference, Conference Carolinas Player of the Year, 1st Team All-Southeast Region, Southeast Region Player of the Year, and 1st Team All-American.
Minor League teams within the Seattle organization include the Class A Short Season Everett AquaSox as well as the Class A West Virginia Power, who reside in the South Atlantic League and play several series' each year against the Greenville Drive in nearby Greenville, SC.
