Tigerville – North Greenville finds itself in the catbird seat heading into Saturday after a 13-4 win over Erskine in the team’s second Conference Carolinas tournament game.
The teams traded runs in the first inning with NGU jumping out ahead on an RBI double from John Michael Faile. Erskine evened it up with a single in the home half of the first to make it 1-1.
Punches were traded in the next few frames with NGU adding a pair of runs only to see the Fleet counter with a pair of their own to even it at 3. Adam Sasser delivered a big blow with a two-run homer in the second but the Fleet were equal to the task, blasting a two-run bomb of their own to do the damage.
North Greenville gave itself some breathing room in the fourth inning, using a five-run frame to make it 8-3. The inning got started when Jeremy Whitehead reached and came around to score on a wild pitch. Adam Sasser would deliver his third RBI of the day to make it 5-3.
The big blow of the frame came from Jeff Chandler who lifted an Erskine pitch over the scoreboard in left field to bring around Sasser and Faile to extend the lead to 8-3, giving NGU some insurance.
The Crusaders would add a run in the fifth inning on Utah Jones’ single and another run-scoring double from John Michael Faile to make it 11-3. Jared Williams would score Faile later on in the inning to make it 13-3.
Jeff Chandler led the offense with three hits a trio of RBI and a run scored.
North Greenville will take on Mount Olive on Saturday morning at 11 AM. The Crusaders and Trojans will play for a spot in the championship game.
