Tigerville, SC - NGU began its final conference series of the season with an 11-3 victory over the Hawks of Chowan University. The game required a 45 minute lightning delay, which then transformed into a 15 minute sun delay. Josh Senter had a strong night with two hits including a home run.
Innings 1-3 (4-0 NGU)
After starter Tucker Burgess began the game with a 1-2-3 top of the 1st, Utah Jones put the Crusaders on the board with a solo shot to left field. A three up, three down top of the 2nd was followed by a three run bottom of the inning including an RBI fielder's choice by Elvis Rosa and a two run home run to center field by Josh Senter. Chowan threatened in the top of the 3rd with two base hits, but Burgess was able to pick the runner at second base off to retire the side. In the bottom of the inning, John Michael Faile reached on an error, but NGU otherwise went quiet in the inning.
Innings 4-6 (10-0 NGU)
North Greenville added to the lead with three runs in the bottom of the 4th by way of an RBI walk by Jack Morris, a sacrifice fly by Jeremy Whitehead, and a wild pitch that allowed Senter to score. After both teams were quiet in the 5th inning, the top of the 6th inning saw a 45 minute weather delay that was then followed by a 15 minute sun delay. After the delays, Jared Lembcke entered the game in relief of Burgess, retiring the next two batters to retire the side. NGU began the bottom of the inning with singles by Senter and Morris. Whitehead followed up with a two RBI triple to right field. Jones then grounded out to score Whitehead to make the score 10-0 in favor of the Crusaders.
Innings 7-9 (11-3 NGU)
CU was able to get on the board in the top of the 7th when Jack Kane hit a leadoff homer to left field. With the Crusaders replacing all but two starters in the top of the 8th, Chowan added two additional runs when Nick Rose hit a two run home run to right center. The Crusaders responded in the bottom of the inning with a run by way of an RBI single by Connor Driscoll, but went on to leave the bases loaded. One batter would reach base for Chowan in the top of the 9th, but Stephen Kight retired the final batter to end the game.
Josh Senter put together a solid performance with 2 hits including a home run, 2 RBIs, and 3 runs scored.
Tucker Burgess recorded the win to hit double digits in wins for the season.
Jeremy Whitehead hit a triple and drove in 3 runs.
The series continues tomorrow with a doubleheader starting at noon. A senior day presentation will begin at approximately 11:45.
