Tigerville, SC - North Greenville won a midweek game against the Lander Bearcats with a final score of 8-7 at Ray & Bea Dillard Field. The Bearcats put up a scare by taking an early 4-0 lead and continuing to lead for the majority of the game, but NGU was able to complete the comeback to take the victory. Jared Williams led the way for the Crusaders with three hits.
Innings 1-3 (4-4 Tied)
After a scoreless 1st inning, Lander took a 4-0 lead in the top of the 2nd when Peter Bocchino connected for a grand slam. However, North Greenville quickly came back to tie the game in the bottom of the inning by way of a solo home run by Adam Sasser, an RBI single by Jeremy Whitehead, and an RBI single by Utah Jones. The two teams went three up, three down in the 3rd.
Innings 4-6 (5-4 LU)
LU reclaimed the lead in the top of the 4th when Jordan Gibert hit a solo shot to right field. The Crusaders were able to get two runners on base in the bottom of the inning, but neither would come around to score. After a quiet 5th inning, Grayson Hickert pitched a 1-2-3 top of the 6th. Once again, NGU would get two runner on base in the bottom of the inning but would not score.
Innings 7-9 (8-7 NGU)
With the Bearcats going quietly in the top of the 7th, the Crusaders were finally able to tie the game in the bottom of the inning when John Michael Faile hit an RBI single to left field. With two runners on base, Jared Williams drove in the go-ahead run with an RBI infield single to shortstop. A sacrifice fly by Lex Tuten scored North Greenville 7th run of the game. Lander led off the 8th with a home run by Mike Fitschen. An RBI single later in the inning tied the game once again. In the bottom of the inning, a dropped fly ball allowed the Crusaders to score what would go on to become the winning run. LU put up one last scare in the top of the 9th with a walk and a double, but a nine pitch at bat ended with the strikeout to put the game to a close.
Jared Williams went 3 for 4 at the plate with an RBI.
Utah Jones collected 2 hits including a double and led NGU with 2 RBIs.
Kipp Rollings pitched the final 1.2 innings to earn the win. He allowed no runs, just two hits, and a walk.
With the regular season clinched, the Crusaders will play their final conference series against the Chowan Hawks on Friday, April 19th in Tigerville.
