North Greenville dropped the first two games of a conference series against the Mount Olive Trojans with final scores of 7-4 and 2-1 in Mount Olive, North Carolina. The Crusaders tallied just twelve hits for the day and went 2-14 with runners in scoring position. Lex Tuten had a solid day with three hits, an RBI, and a run scored.
Game One (7-4 UMO)
With Tucker Burgess on the mound, UMO would get on the board in the bottom of the 2nd with an RBI double as well as a home run to take an early 3-0 lead. In the top of the 3rd, the Crusaders would quickly get right back in the game with three runs of their own including an RBI single by Elvin Rosa, a sacrifice fly by Jeremy Whitehead, and an RBI sacrifice bunt by Jared Williams to tie the game. After both teams went three up, three down in the 4th, Mount Olive would reclaim the lead in the bottom of the 5th thanks to an RBI single and an RBI groundout. Once again, NGU responded with an RBI double by Adam Sasser to put North Greenville within a run. In the bottom of the 8th, a two RBI double was the dagger in the heart as the Crusaders were unable to cut the deficit in the top of the 9th.
Game Two (2-1 UMO)
Michael Giacone took the mound for the start. Again, the Trojans struck first in the bottom of the 2nd by way of a run scoring on a wild pitch. The Crusaders came back to tie the game at 1-1 in the top of the 4th when a wild pitch allowed Jeffrey Chandler to score. After scoreless 5th and 6th innings, a sacrifice fly allowed the winning run to score, allowing UMO to take the win as well as the series.
Lex Tuten led the way with 3 hits, an RBI, and a run scored.
Michael Giacone pitched 6.0 strong innings, allowing 5 hits and just 1 earned run.
Adam Sasser put up a double, an RBI, and a walk.
NGU will attempt to salvage a game in the series tomorrow with game three starting at noon.
