Tigerville, SC - NGU took an 11-7 victory over the UNC Pembroke Braves at Ray & Bea Dillard Field. All starting fielders in the batting lineup recorded at least one hit while pitching combined for just one earned run. Jeremy Whitehead put together a solid performance offensively with three base hits. He also went on to steal home.
Innings 1-3 (5-4 NGU)
After a scoreless top of the 1st, NGU scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the inning when Jeremy Whitehead hit a leadoff single and later stole home. The Crusaders would score two more runs in the bottom of the 2nd starting with a sacrifice fly by Elvin Rosa followed by a solo shot to center field by Josh Senter. Jared Lembcke ran into some trouble in the top of the 3rd when four runs scored to give the Braves the lead. Just one of those runs was earned. However, North Greenville would not trail for long as Adam Sasser connected for a two run home run to put the Crusaders up 5-4 after three innings.
Innings 4-6 (11-4 NGU)
Grayson Hickert began his outing with a 1-2-3 top of the 4th. Rosa would double in the bottom of the inning, but NGU would otherwise go quiet. Hickert continued to pitch well with a second three up, three down top of the 5th. Sasser would drive in another run in the bottom of the inning with a two RBI triple to center field. Jeffrey Chandler would then ground out to bring in Sasser. Jared Williams and Utah Jones both hit RBI singles in the bottom of the 6th to allow the Crusaders to put three additional runs on the board.
Innings 7-9 (11-7 NGU)
After two routine outs to begin the 7th inning, an error allowed the Braves to extend the inning, which they took advantage of. Three unearned runs would ultimately score in the inning. From there, both teams would spend the rest of the game getting one hit in each inning, but not being able to score.
Jeremy Whitehead went 3 for 5 at the plate and scored 2 runs including stealing home.
Adam Sasser hit a home run as well as a triple, collecting 4 RBIs in the process.
Utah Jones recorded 2 hits, 2 runs scores, and an RBI.
North Greenville will head to Bristol, Tennessee to take on the Kind Tornado in a weekend conference series starting Friday, April 5th.
