Tigerville, SC - North Greenville completed the sweep of the Southern Wesleyan Warriors with 9-3 and 15-1 victories today at Ray & Bea Dillard Field. The Crusaders totalled 27 hits for the day while only allowing a total of 7. Michael Giacone and Ethan Garner earned the wins.
Game One (9-3 NGU)
Southern Wesleyan was first to get on the board with a solo home run by Julio Justo in the 1st inning. NGU responded in the 2nd with two runs including a solo home run by John Michael Faile and a double steal to score Elvin Rosa. The Crusaders repeated in the bottom of the 3rd by scoring two more runs by way of a two RBI single by Rosa. After the Warriors scored two in the top of the 5th, the Crusaders put together a four run bottom of the 5th that included a two RBI single by Faile, an RBI triple by Josh Senter, and an RBI double by Jack Morris. An insurance run was scored in the 6th when Jeffrey Chandler hit an RBI groundout. Kipp Rollings pitched a scoreless and hitless two innings to close out the game.
Game Two (15-1 NGU)
North Greenville was the first team on the board with an RBI single to right center by Jeffrey Chandler. SWU responded in the top of the 2nd to tie the game with an RBI double to center field. The Crusaders would quickly take the lead back and pull away by scoring five runs in the bottom of the 2nd. Josh Senter scored the first run with an RBI single to shortstop. Jeremy Whitehead would then reach on a fielder's choice, which scored a run. A sacrifice bunt by Jared Williams scored the third run, and a two run home run by Utah Jones capped off the inning. After a scoreless 3rd, the Crusaders put together three more runs in the 4th by way of a bunt single by Whitehead where a run would score due to a throwing error, an RBI single to second base by Jared Williams, and an RBI groundout by Utah Jones. North Greenville pulled away even further in the bottom of the 5th with another five run performance. Lex Tuten would cap off the scoring in the bottom of the 6th with an RBI single to left field.
Jeremy Whitehead had a 4 hit performance while also recording 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored for the day.
Utah Jones put up 3 hits, 4 RBIs, and scored 4 runs.
Lex Tuten started one game, but produced 3 hits, 2 runs scores, and an RBI.
NGU will face the UNC Pembroke Indians in Tigerville on Wednesday, April 3rd.
