North Greenville won another conference series by splitting the doubleheader with the Emmanuel Lions in Franklin Springs, Georgia. Emmanuel took the first game in walk-off fashion with a 2-1 victory while the Crusaders came to life in the second game with a 9-0 win. Tucker Burgess had another strong outing with five scoreless innings pitched.
Game One (2-1 EC)
Michael Giacone took the start for NGU, looking to capture his seventh win of the season. The Lions would strike first in the 3rd inning with an RBI double to left center to put Emmanuel on the board. Late in the game, North Greenville scored the tying run when Utah Jones hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the 6th to bring in Jared Williams. However, the Lions scored the winning run in walk-off fashion in the bottom of the 7th to hand Giacone his first loss of the season.
Game Two (9-0 NGU)
NGU wasted no time to start the game, scoring three runs in the top of the 1st by a wild pitch, an RBI single by John Michael Faile, and a sacrifice fly by Elvin Rosa. The Crusaders added to their lead in the 2nd inning with two more runs thanks to a wild pitch and an RBI single by Adam Sasser. Starter Tucker Burgess struck out the side in the bottom of the inning. The 4th inning would see North Greenville put two additional runs up on the board due to a sacrifice fly by Jeffrey Chandler and an RBI single by Elvin Rosa. Rosa would come through yet again in the top of the 6th with another RBI single. Pitching kept the Lions in check as the Crusaders would hold on for the shutout. Burgess pitched a complete game and took the win.
Tucker Burgess pitched 5 strong innings, allowing no runs on just 5 hits and striking out 7.
Jared Williams came around to score 4 times throughout the day.
Elvin Rosa was a starter in game 2, recording 2 hits and 3 RBIs.
With no midweek games, the Crusaders will return to action on Friday, March 29th to face the Southern Wesleyan Warriors in Tigerville.
