The North Greenville Crusaders began their weekend with a 7-5 victory over the Emmanuel Lions in Frankin Springs, Georgia. North Greenville posted seven runs on nine hits while committing two errors. Adam Sasser collected two hits while driving in two runs.
Innings 1-3 (3-1 NGU)
NGU began the day with two home runs by Jeremy Whitehead and Adam Sasser in the top of the 1st. The Crusaders threated further by loading the bases, but after a pitching change a strikeout ended the threat to leave the bases loaded. With starter Ethan Garner on the mound, Emmanuel responded in the bottom of the inning by scoring a run on a double play. Jared Williams hit a triple in the bottom of the 2nd, but was unable to score. The Crusaders added a third run in the top of the 3rd with a home run by Jeffrey Chandler Jr. The Lions were able to get two runners on base in the bottom of the inning, but Garner came up with a strikeout to end the inning.
Innings 4-6 (6-2 NGU)
After a scoreless 4th inning, the Crusaders added two more runs in the top of the 5th by way of an RBI double by Adam Sasser and an RBI groundout by John Michael Faile. Utah Jones added to the North Greenville lead when Utah Jones drove in a run with a single to left field. Brent Herlong entered the game to relieve Garner to begin the bottom of the 6th. An RBI groundout cut the NGU lead to four runs.
Innings 7-9 (7-5 NGU)
North Greenville's final run of the game came in the top of the 7th inning with an RBI single by Jack Morris. Herlong pitched a 1-2-3 bottom of the inning. The Crusaders went quiet in the top of the 8th with three groundouts. The bottom of the 8th saw the Lions connect for a two run home run to make the score 7-4. Brock Robinson entered the game to close things out. EC scored one run, but North Greenville held on to win the game.
Ethan Garner earned his 5th win of the season. He pitched 5 innings while allowing just 1 earned run on 5 hits, 1 walk, and struck out 3 batters.
Adam Sasser recorded 2 hits including a double and 2 RBIs.
Jeremy Whitehead hit his 2nd home run of the season.
The two teams return to action tomorrow to continue the series starting at noon.
