Big First Inning Leads to Win Over USC Aiken

Tigerville, SC - The North Greenville Crusaders improved their winning streak to 11 games with a final score of 11-3 against the Pacers of USC Aiken. NGU began the game with a bang, scoring seven runs in the opening inning. North Greenville would go on to score eleven runs on thirteen hits while allowing three runs on ten hits. Tucker Burgess earned his sixth win of the season. Jack Morris hit a grand slam in the opening inning.

Innings 1-3 (7-2 NGU)

After Burgess began the game with a 1-2-3 top of the 1st, North Greenville decided to put the game away early with seven runs in the bottom of the inning including a home run by Jeffrey Chandler, an RBI single by Josh Senter, and a grand slam by Jack Morris. USC Aiken would wake up in the top of the 2nd with two runs scored including a home run by Conner Durden. Burgess would allow two hits in the top of the 3rd, but was able to work out of it to retire the side without a run scoring. 

Innings 4-6 (8-3 NGU)

Daniel Kight took the mound in the 4th inning. USC Aiken added a run with an RBI single, but Kight would work his way out of a jam to leave the bases loaded. In the bottom of the inning, Jared Williams scored a run for the Crusaders on a wild pitch. Jared Lembcke replaced Kight on the mound, and pitched a three up, three down top of the 5th. John Michael Faile connected for a leadoff ground-rule double, but NGU would be retired in order from there. Lembcke remained in the game to pitch the 6th. He allowed two hits, but kept both runners stranded on base. 

Innings 7-9 (11-3 NGU)

Kipp Rollings entered the game to pitch the 7th inning. He allowed a leadoff single but would then retire the next three batters in order. In the bottom of the inning, Faile added to the Crusader lead with a home run to left field. Rollings had a repeat performance in the top of the 8th, allowing a leadoff hit but no runs. A wild pitch that scored Morris and an RBI double by Jeffrey Chandler scored the tenth and eleventh runs for North Greenville. Brock Robinson closed out the game in the 9th, pitching a 1-2-3 inning.

Individual

Jack Morris went 3 for 4 including a grand slam and a double.

John Michael Faile also posted 3 hits, and was just a triple shy from hitting for the cycle.

Tucker Burgess earned his 6th win of the season, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits and striking out 4.

North Greenville will head to Franklin Springs, Georgia to face the Emmanuel Lions on Friday, March 22nd to begin a three-game conference series.
