NGU Completes Sweep of Limestone

North Greenville spent Sunday completing the sweep of the Limestone Saints with a 9-4 victory in Gaffney, SC. Coming out of the weekend, the Crusaders now hold a 10 game winning streak as well as 1st place in the Conference Carolinas standings. Adam Sasser had a strong game with two hits and three RBIs.

Innings 1-3 (2-0 LC)

Ethan Garner took the mound to start the game for NGU. After a scoreless top of the 1st, Limestone got on the board in the bottom of the inning by way of an RBI single. Jeffrey Chandler began the 2nd with a leadoff walk, but the Crusaders were retired in order from there. Alex Cornell added to the Saints lead in the bottom of the inning with a leadoff solo shot to left field. North Greenville put up a threat in the top of the 3rd with two baserunners, but still no hits or runs. In the bottom of the inning, a leadoff hit by pitch was followed by a groundout and a double play to end the inning.

Innings 4-6 (8-2 NGU)

For the second time in the game, Chandler walked to lead off the 4th, but once again NGU was then retired in order. Limestone put one runner on base due to a dropped fly ball in the bottom of the inning, but would ultimately go quiet in the inning. North Greenville finally made some noise in the top of the 5th when Adam Sasser hit a two RBI double to right center, putting NGU in the run column as well as the hit column. With a runner in scoring position in the bottom of the inning, Garner was relieved by Matthew Dailey on the mound. The Saints would load the bases, Daniel Kight would enter the game with two outs and come through with a huge strikeout to leave the bases loaded. John Michael Faile led off the top of the 6th with a home run to center field. The bases would be loaded before Jeremy Whitehead knocked in a run with an RBI single through the right side. Two at bats later, Utah Jones would drive two more runs in with a single to left field. During the next at bat, Whitehead would steal third and score on an error. Sasser would cap off the inning with an RBI single to right field to make the score 8-2 in favor of the Crusaders.

Innings 7-9 (9-4 NGU)

After a 1-2-3 top of the 7th, Limestone scored two runs in the bottom of the inning by way of a single to left field. Both teams would go three up, three down in the 8th. In the top of the 9th, Chandler would get NGU an insurance run with a home run to left field. Two more runners would get on base, but two straight outs ended the threat. Brock Robinson closed out the game. He allowed a base hit, but a double play would end the inning as well as the game. Daniel Kight, who finished the 5th inning, took the win.
