North Greenville Takes Two Over Limestone to Clinch Series

NGU began the weekend series with 10-2 and 6-0 victories to clinch the conference series against the Limestone Saints. The Crusaders totalled 16 runs on 20 hits while allowing just 2 runs on 9 hits. Jared Williams had a big day, going 4 for 9 at the plate with 4 RBIs and 3 runs scored.

Game One (10-2 NGU)

Michael Giacone took the mound, looking to collect his 6th win of the season. Jeremy Whitehead began the game with a leadoff bunt single and would advance to second on the play due to a throwing error by Limestone pitcher Payton MacPherson. Jared Williams followed up with an RBI single through the right side to put the Crusaders on the board. Later in the inning, Jeffrey Chandler added a second run with a single to center field. Limestone would fight back with a leadoff home run by Trace Whetsell to make the score 2-1 at the end of the 1st. NGU would keep things going in the top of the 2nd with a three run inning, including a solo homer to left field by Jack Morris, an RBI double by Williams, and an RBI single by Utah Jones. Giacone was able to get on track in the bottom of the inning, striking out the side. After a leadoff double by John Michael Faile to lead off the top of the 3rd, consecutive RBI doubles by Sean Parsons and Josh Senter increased the Crusader lead to six runs. Another dominant inning by Giacone saw Limestone go three up, three down. Another run would be scored by North Greenville in the top of the 4th thanks to a fielding error that allowed Jeffrey Chandler to score. In the bottom of the 5th, the Saints added a second run when Trey Huber homered. Pitching took over until the top of the 8th, when the Crusaders scored a ninth run due to a leadoff triple by Morris followed by an RBI groundout by Williams. NGU added one last insurance run in the top of the 9th by way of a sacrifice fly by Faile. Ethan Struthers closed out the game with three groundouts. Giacone successfully earned his sixth win of the season.

Game Two (6-0 NGU)

Tucker Burgess was the North Greenville starting pitcher. Both teams began the game with one hit but no runs in the 1st inning. The two teams would get a runner on base in the 2nd as well, but again would not score a run. The Crusaders went three up, three down in the 3rd and 4th innings while the Saints would get just one runner on base. North Greenville threatened in the top of the 5th with singles by John Michael Faile to lead off the inning. However, the next three batters would strike out to retire the side. Burgess would pitch a three up, three down bottom of the inning. After a scoreless 6th inning, North Greenville would finally strike in the 7th inning. Sean Parsons would start things off with a two run home run. After two walks, Jared Williams hit an RBI single to score Jack Morris. Utah Jones added a fifth run with a sacrifice fly. Adam Sasser then capped off the inning with a two run homer to put the Crusaders up 6-0. Kipp Rollings entered the game to close things out. He would allow a hit, but nothing else as North Greenville would complete the shutout.

Jared Williams collected 4 hits, 4 RBIs, and 3 runs scored.

Michael Giacone recorded his 6th win of the season, pitching 6 innings and allowing just 2 runs on 3 hits and striking out 7.

Jeremy Whitehead posted 3 hits including a double and scored 3 runs.
