North Greenville put together another dominant performance with a 10-2 victory against the Lander Bearcats in Greenwood, South Carolina. The Crusaders scored ten runs on fifteen hits while the Bearcats scored two runs on two hits. John Michael Faile and Lex Tuten both produced three hits and an RBI. Jared Lembcke recorded his first win of the season.
Innings 1-3 (1-1 Tied)
NGU threatened in the 1st innings by loading the bases, but did not score a run. Starter Tucker Burgess pitching a 1-2-3 bottom of the inning. The Crusaders recorded the only hit of the 2nd inning, but once again came up empty. Jared Williams led off the top of the 3rd inning and connected for a solo home run to put North Greenville on the board. However, the Bearcats scored an unearned run in the bottom of the inning to tie the game.
Innings 4-6 (5-1 NGU)
John Michael Faile hit NGU's second lead off home run of the game to put the Crusaders up 2-1. North Greenville would knock four hits in the inning but were unable to add another run to the board. Jared Lembcke, who replaced Gayson Hickert on the mound, pitched a three up, three down bottom of the 4th. The Crusaders would have a successful top of the 5th with three runs scored including an RBI double by Lex Tuten and a sacrifice fly by Cory Bivins. Both teams were able to get one runner on base in the 6th, but neither would score a run.
Innings 7-9 (10-2 NGU)
North Greenville pulled away for good in the top of the 7th with five runs scored. An error allowed Tuten to score the first run. A wild pitch then allowed Faile to score. After a Jack Morris walk, Jeremy White cleared the bases with a double to put the Crusaders up 10-1. Duncan Callahan entered the game and pitched a three up, three down 7th inning. Ethan Struthers and JK Love pitched the 8th and 9th innings. The Bearcats put up a final run in the bottom of the 9th with a home run, but Love then struck out the final batter for the win.
John Michael Faile went 3 for 5 including a home run, and scored 2 runs.
Lex Tuten also went 3 for 5 with a run scored.
Jeremy Whitehead recorded 3 RBIs with a bases-clearing double.
NGU will return to conference play on Friday, March 15th against the Limestone Saints in Gaffney, SC.
