North Greenville Takes Care of Business Against Queens at Fluor Field

Greenville, SC - North Greenville achieved a lopsided victory over the Royals of Queens University of Charlotte with a final score of 14-3. NGU produced just six hits, but eleven walks, three hit by pitches, and four errors committed by the Royals led to the one-sided win. Matthew Daily earned his first win of the season while Cory Bivins hit his first collegiate home run.

Innings 1-3 (6-0 NGU)

Matthew Dailey began his day with a 1-2-3 top of the 1st thanks to an inning-ending double play. Utah Jones would put up NGU's first hit of the game in the 1st, but the Crusaders would otherwise go quiet in the inning as well. Both teams would get a runner on base in the 2nd, but neither would go on to score. Queens was able to get two runners on base in the top of the 3rd thanks to a single and walk, but would once again come up empty. In the bottom of the inning, the Crusaders would put six runs up on the board. It started with Jeffrey Chandler being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. John Michael Faile then walked to bring in a second run. With a new pitcher in and Lex Tuten batting, a fielding error allowed everyone to move up a base to score a third run. After an out, a strange play that started with a wild pitch ended up with three runs scoring due to the wild pitch plus a throwing error to make the score 6-0.

Innings 4-6 (6-2 NGU)

The Royals began the 4th inning on a positive note as a leadoff triple by Noah Jones ended with Jones scoring due to a throwing error to put Queens on the board. With Danny Westbury entering the game to pitch, QU would put up a second run in the 5th with an RBI single. NGU would go three up, three down in both the 5th and 6th innings.

Innings 7-9 (14-3 NGU)

Brent Herlong took over on the mound and pitched a 1-2-3 inning in the 7th. North Greenville struck again in the bottom of the inning, connecting for five runs. Utah Jones was the first to score in the inning on a passed ball. With the bases loaded, Dawson Price hit a groundball that allowed Adam Sasser to score. Josh Senter then followed up with an RBI single. Jack Morris capped off the scoring in the inning with a sacrifice fly to right field. Nate Roof took over on the mound in the top of the 8th. An RBI single put a third run on the board for Queens. However, NGU responded in the bottom of the inning with three runs. Pinch hitter Cory Bivins connected on the first pitch for a solo home run. Elvin Rosa entered the game and hit an RBI ground ball to third base. A wild pitch would put up the final run on the board for the Crusaders. Roof would close out the game with a 1-2-3 9th inning.
