NGU Begins Week With Win Over Anderson

North Greenville began its week with a one-sided 18-4 victory over the Trojans of Anderson University. The Crusaders recorded 18 hits and committed two errors. Jeffrey Chandler led in RBIs with five.

Innings 1-3 (10-2 NGU)

It didn't take long for the Crusaders on the board as Utah Jones connected for a home run to right field in the top of the 1st. With two runners on base later in the inning, John Michael Faile drove in a second run with a single to left field. Anderson responded in the bottom of the inning with a two run homer to tie the game. In the top of the 2nd, Jared Williams gave the Crusaders the lead back with a two RBI single to left field. With the bases loaded, Jeffrey Chandler then came through with a bases-clearing triple and would score on the play due to a throwing error to give NGU a 7-2 lead. More runs would be scored by NGU in the top of the 3rd with an RBI sacrifice bunt by Jeremy Whitehead and an RBI single by Utah Jones, who would also score due to a throwing error. 

Innings 4-6 (14-3 NGU)

After a double by John Michael Faile and an infield single by Lex Tuten, Jack Morris would score both by way of a two RBI triple down the right field line. In the top of the 5th, a two run home run by Chandler improved the score to 14-2. The Trojans put up a run in the bottom of the 6th with an RBI walk. 

Innings 7-9 (18-4 NGU)

The scoring continued in the top of the 7th with an RBI single to left center by Dawson Price. Tuten would follow up with an RBI single of his own. AU hit an RBI single in the bottom of the inning. With the game in hand, NGU added a few insurance runs just for good measure in the top of the 9th with Price scoring on a wild pitch and Treyce Bouknight scoring on a double play. Stephen Kight closed out the game for the Crusaders, pitching a scoreless inning.


Utah Jones led with 3 hits, scored 3 runs, and drove in 2 runs.

Jack Morris went 3 for 5 with 2 runs and 2 RBIs.

Jeffrey Chandler led in RBIs with 5. He went 2 for 4 with 3 runs scored.


The Crusaders will return to action tomorrow in Tigerville to take on the Catawba College Indians.
