Crusaders Set Program Strikeout Record in One-Sided Win Over Erskine

Tigerville, SC - The North Greenville Crusaders began the weekend with a lopsided 24-0 victory over the Erskine Flying Fleet. Michael Giacone, Nate Roof, Caleb Murphy, and JK Love collectively set a program record for strikeouts in a game with 23. On offense, the Crusaders dominated as well with four home runs, seven doubles, and 22 RBIs. Giacone was the winning pitcher, and is now 4-0 for the season.

Innings 1-3 (8-0 NGU)

Michael Giacone began the game with a three up, three down 1st inning. In the bottom of the inning, NGU quickly got to work with four runs including an RBI double by Utah Jones and a three run homer by Adam Sasser. The Flying Fleet recorded their first hit in the 2nd, but would do no more damage as the side was quickly retired by Giacone. North Greenville put together a repeat performance in the bottom of the inning with four more runs by way of an RBI double by Jared Williams, an RBI single by Jeffrey Chandler, an RBI double by John Michael Faile, and an RBI double by Elvin Rosa. Both teams would pitch 1-2-3 innings in the 3rd.

Innings 4-6 (22-0 NGU)

Erskine was able to get two runners on base in the top of the 4th by a base hit and an error, but would leave those runners on base. The Crusaders would score three more runs in the bottom of the inning with a two run home run by Faile an RBI by Josh Senter. Giacone finished his outing in style by striking out the side in the top of the 5th. Six additional runs would add to the NGU lead in the bottom of the inning by way of an RBI single by Utah Jones, an RBI single by Chandler, a three run home run by Faile, and an RBI groundout by Jack Morris. Nate Roof replaced Giacone on the mound in the 6th, pitching a 1-2-3 inning. The scoring continued for North Greenville with five runs in the bottom of the inning with an RBI fielder's choice by Chandler, a wild pitch that allowed Corey Bivins to score, an RBI double by Lex Tuten, a fielding error that allowed Tuten to score, and an RBI single by Jack Morris.

Innings 7-9 (24-0 NGU)

Roof allowed one runner with a hit by pitch, but would then retire the next three batters in the top of the 7th. NGU went three up, three down in the bottom of the inning. With Caleb Murphy entering the game to pitch, EC would record one final base hit in the top of the 8th, but once again would come up empty. Tuten added a run for the Crusaders with a solo shot to right center. Later in the inning, Jack Morris hit an RBI double to add North Greenville's final run to the board. With JK Love closing out the game at pitcher for NGU, Erskine would go down in order to end the game.

John Michael Faile went 3 for 4 with 2 home runs and 6 RBIs.

Utah Jones also went 3 for 4, scoring 3 runs and driving in 2 runs.

Michael Giacone recorded his 4th win of the season. He pitched 5.0 innings and gave up 2 hits while striking out 12.
