NGU Bounces Back With Win Over Palm Beach Atlantic

Tigerville, SC - The North Greenville Crusaders evened up the two-game series with a 10-4 victory against the Sailfish of Palm Beach Atlantic University. With the win, the Crusaders now carry a 9-5 record heading into their second conference series of the season. Jack Morris had an impressive day with three hits, an RBI, and a run scored.

Innings 1-3 (4-3 NGU)

Palm Beach Atlantic began the game by getting two hits in the opening inning off of NGU starter Tucker Burgess. They would, however, leave both runners on as the side was retired. North Greenville went quiet in the bottom of the inning, going three up, three down. PBA was able to get two runners on base again in the 2nd inning with a base hit and walk, but would once again strand both runners. After a leadoff double by Adam Sasser and two walks, two wild pitches and an RBI single by Jack Morris put three runs on the board for the Crusaders. With Jared Lembcke entering the game to relieve Burgess, the Sailfish responded in the top of the 3rd with three runs of their own including a home run by Riley Herold and a 2 RBI single by Brandon Smith. With two runner on base in the bottom of the inning, Palm Beach Atlantic would end the inning with a double play, but not before Jeffrey Chandler crossed home plate to put NGU back up by one run.

Innings 4-6 (4-3 NGU)

Grayson Hickert took over on the mound in the top of the 4th. PBA led off the inning with two singles, but the next three batters were retired to end the threat. Sean Parsons recorded the only hit for North Greenville in the bottom of the inning, but was unable to get past second base. Hickert pitched a three up, three down top of the 5th. The Crusaders would load the bases in the bottom of the inning thanks to a leadoff single by Jeremy Whitehead, reaching on a hit by pitch by Sasser, and a walk by Chandler. However, PBA pitcher Kevin Nunez would come through with a big strikeout to get out of a jam. Duncan Callahan entered the game to pitch for North Greenville, and pitched a 1-2-3 top of the 6th. Palm Beach Atlantic endured a pitching changed after allowing a walk and a base hit with one out. Heath Hawkins entered the game, retiring the next two Crusader batters to end the inning without a run scoring.

Innings 7-9 (10-4 NGU)

With Kipp Rollings taking over the mound in the top of the 7th, an RBI triple by Brandon Seltzer brought in the tying run. NGU went three up, three down in the bottom of the inning. The Sailfish began the 8th inning with a single, but after a fielder's choice, a double play retired the side. A big inning for North Greenville in the bottom of the 8th saw six runs scored including a leadoff home run by Faile, a two-RBI single by Jared Williams and Utah Jones, and an RBI single by Chandler. Brock Robinson closed out the game as the pitcher for NGU. He struggled at first with two walks allowed, but settled down to leave the bases loaded without allowing a run.

Individual

Jack Morris had a solid day with 3 hits, an RBI, and a run scored. 

Utah Jones put together 2 hits, 2 RBIs, and a run scored.

John Michael Faile recorded NGU's only home run as well as a second hit and an RBI.

NGU will return to action on Friday, March 1st to take on the Erskine Flying Fleet in Tigerville.
