Tigerville, SC - North Greenville began the weekend with a dominating 17-1 victory over the Sharks of Nova Southeastern University. NGU put together 18 hits and totalled 15 RBIs. Tucker Burgess pitched 6.0 strong innings and took the win.
Innings 1-3 (6-1 NGU)
NSU recorded a hit in the 1st, but a double play ended the side. The Crusaders recorded hits by Jeremy Whitehead and Utah Jones to begin the bottom of the inning, but the next three batters were retired to end the threat. Nova Southeastern began the inning with an infield single, but was otherwise quiet in the inning. North Greenville put together three runs in the bottom of the inning with a double by John Michael Faile and a two run home run by Josh Senter. The Sharks led off the 3rd inning with a solo home run but went three up, three down for the rest of the inning. After Jared Williams and Faile led off the bottom of the inning with singles, Williams drove in the fourth run for NGU with an RBI single. Faile followed up with a sacrifice fly to score Jeffrey Chandler. Williams went on to score due to a balk to increase the score to 6-1 in favor of NGU.
Innings 4-6 (14-1 NGU)
Burgess continued to pitch well with a 1-2-3 inning in the 4th. After a leadoff double by Whitehead in the bottom of the inning, four additional runs would score on RBI singles by Adam Sasser, Williams, Faile, and Lex Tuten. For the second straight inning, Nova Southeastern went three up, three down in the inning. In the bottom of the inning, three more runs scored by way of an RBI groundout by Michael Neustifter, an RBI double by Chandler, and a sacrifice fly by Faile. NSU collected two hits in the top of the 6th, but both would be left on base. NGU's fourteenth run of the game came in the bottom of the inning with an RBI double by Jones.
Innings 7-9 (17-1 NGU)
Once again the Sharks were able to get two runners on base, but went scoreless in the inning. North Greenville continued the scoring with three more runs in the bottom of the 7th when Elvin Rosa, Palmer Sapp, and Cory Bivins came in to score. With the game in hand, both teams would use the remainder of the game to enter several pinch hitters and defensive subs.
John Michael Faile was perfect at the plate with 2 hits, 4 RBIs, and a walk.
Jeremy Whitehead went 3 for 4 with 3 runs scored at the ladoff position.
Utah Jones recorded 3 hits in 3 at bats with an RBI and a run scored.
The Crusaders will continue the series tomorrow with the Sharks with game one starting at noon.
