John Jones goes to the Athletics in the 32nd Round

Tigerville, S.C. -- North Greenville catcher John Jones will also get to continue his baseball career with a Major League Baseball organization. Jones was selected by the Oakland Athletics, an organization that head coach Landon Powell spent eight years with.

The Athletics selected Jones in the 32nd round with the 953rd overall pick. Jones is now the 12th NGU baseball player to be drafted by a major league franchise and the fourth drafted player to make the leap to Major League Baseball under Powell. Jones joins Connor Grant, Clark Scolamiero, and Adam Boghosian as draft picks and Alan Staton who picked up a free-agent contract with the Cardinals.

John Jones transferred to North Greenville for his senior campaign and made an immediate impact. He finished the season with a team-leading .392 AVG and 59 RBIs. As a catcher, Jones was impressive behind the plate, posting a .987 fielding percentage.
