North Greenville Splits Doubleheader, Drops Series

Fort Lauderdale, FL - North Greenville suffered its first series loss of the season by splitting a doubleheader with Nova Southeastern after falling to the Sharks yesterday. The Crusaders evened up the series in Game One with a 13-11 score in extra inings. NSU won Game Two in walk-off fashion with a final score of 5-3. John Jones had a historical performance in the first game of the doubleheader with six hits, three RBIs, and four runs scored.

Game 1

The Basics

  • Score: North Greenville – 13 / Nova Southeastern – 11
  • Records: NGU 44-7, 18-5 Away / NSU 31-13, 22-7 Home
  • Location: Fort Lauderdale, Florida (NSU Baseball Complex)

How it Happened

  • NGU entered the run column early with two runs in the top of the 1st. An RBI-double to left center by Connor Grant brought in the first run. A sacrifice fly by Jeffrey Chandler scored the second.
  • The Sharks responded quickly with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning.
  • North Greenville jumped right back on top by scoring six runs in the 2nd including an RBI-double by Josh Black and a two-RBI double by Ryan Brown.
  • Nova Southeastern brought in two more runs in the 3rd and an additional run in the 5th to make the score 8-6 in favor of the Crusaders.
  • Both teams hit solo shots in the 6th inning. Connor Grant hit his tenth home run of the season for North Greenville and Nick Gallo hit his sixth for NSU.
  • An error in the 7th inning allowed the Sharks to score their ninth run of the ballgame to cut their deficit to one run.
  • The game was officially tied once again with an RBI-single in the 8th by Nova Southeastern.
  • North Greenville took the lead again in the 10th inning when Alex Williams scored on a wild pitch. John Jones would add to the lead with a two-run homer to right center.
  • NSU managed to score a run in the bottom of the inning with a home run to center field, but Kipp Rollings would retire the next batter for the final out.

How it Happened

  • Nova Southeastern scored first with a solo home run by Jake Anchia in the 1st inning.
  • North Greenville would get on the board in the 4th with an RBI-groundout by Jeffrey Chandler.
  • The Crusaders took the lead in the top of the 5th when Josh Black hit a fielder's choice to knock in a run. Jared Williams slid under the tag to score the run.
  • NSU responded with a run in the bottom of the 5th to tie the game by way of an RBI-single.
  • In the top of the 6th, Williams put North Greenville back in the lead when he singled through the right side to bring in a run.
  • The Sharks responded yet again, this time with a solo home run by Brendan Cutting.
  • NGU had to face Nova Southeastern's heart of the order in the 7th, and could not escape the inning as Jake Anchia hit his 20th home run of the season in walk-off fashion to win the game for NSU.

  • Jared Williams went 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored.
  • Connor Grant recorded 2 hits and 2 runs scored.
  • Canaan Cropper was charged with his 1st loss of the season. He pitched the final 1.1 innings for NGU, and allowed 3 runs on 3 hits.

  • Jake Anchia went 3 for 4 including 2 home runs and 3 RBIs.
  • Samuel Duran posted 3 hits and an RBI.
