Championship Central: Schedule updates and other info

Tigerville – Championship week is one day closer to being in the books with NGU baseball and softball winning their first two games and women's lacrosse gearing up for a Saturday afternoon semifinal match with Limestone College.

Women’s Lacrosse fires up the postseason action on Wednesday evening, also against Chowan University at 6 pm. Wednesday’s game for North Greenville will highlight the first time in program history the Crusaders have hosted a first-round game after traveling to Pfeiffer last season for the quarterfinals.

The stakes for the women’s team are just as high as they are for the men. A win over the Hawks would send North Greenville to the semis for the season in a row with a chance to play for the tournament title. Both the semifinals and finals will be held in Tigerville on Saturday and Sunday. The Crusaders won the first meeting with Chowan handily, sending the Hawkins packing after a 14 – 2 drubbing.

For the first time in program history, the Crusaders head to Burlington for the Conference Carolinas tournament as the number one seed. NGU finished the regular season with a 21 – 3 conference mark which was good enough to win the program’s first-ever regular season championship, securing the title with a sweep of Barton over the weekend.

North Greenville swept the Saints in the regular season just two weeks ago. It will be the first meeting between NGU and Limestone in any postseason capacity on the baseball diamond. The Crusaders head into postseason play in the top five of several national rankings including #4 in the NCAA National College Baseball Writers Association and as high as #1 by Collegiate Baseball.

The Crusaders opened the tournament with a big win over Limestone College on Thursday night and added another victory on Friday as Tucker Burgess tossed a complete game shutout to oust Erskine from the tournament.
