Tigerville, S.C. - North Greenville finished a week of undefeated baseball with a series sweep of the King Tornado to officially top the Conference Carolinas standings. The Crusaders won Game One 3-1 and hung on to win Game Two 6-3. Eric Gilbert has suddenly become a power threat with two home runs in the last four games. Tucker Burgess and Blake Hamilton were the winning pitchers of the doubleheader while Canaan Cropper and Avery Greer earned saves.

Game 1

The Basics

  • Score: North Greenville – 3 / King – 1
  • Records: NGU 21-5, 9-2 CC / KU 15-8, 6-5 CC
  • Location: Tigerville, South Carolina (Ray & Bea Dillard Field at Ashmore Park)

How it Happened

  • Neither team would enter the run column until the 3rd when Eric Gilbert hit his second home run of the season to put the Crusaders ahead 1-0.
  • NGU added two runs in the 4th with sacrifice fly balls by Andrew Plunkett and Jack Morris.
  • The Tornado scored their only run of the game in the 5th when Mark Michael hit an RBI-single.
  • Canaan Cropper pitched two shutout innings to record the save and get North Greenville the win.

  • The Crusaders scored three runs in the 2nd beginning with a sacrifice fly by Ryan Brown. Later in the inning, Jared Williams added two runs with a single through the left side.
  • Two more runs came in for NGU in the 3rd thanks to a RBI single by Jack Morris that scored a second run due to an error.
  • King scored in the 4th with an RBI-single by Tony Valdes.
  • Late in the game, the Tornado put up a fight with two runs in the top of the 8th with a sacrifice fly by Trader Flora and an RBI-single by J.P. Castaneda.
  • Alex Williams put NGU back up by three with his second home run of the season.
  • Avery Greer pitched a three up, three down 9th inning to seal the win for the Crusaders.
