NGU baseball to christen new playing surface on Wednesday

Tigerville, S.C. – North Greenville athletic director Jan McDonald and head baseball coach Landon Powell have announced that North Greenville baseball will officially take the field in Tigerville tomorrow (Wednesday, February 21, 2018) for the first game on the brand new artificial playing surface.

Crews broke ground on the new playing surface in November with intentions of having the playing surface ready for action by February. Crews from Sportsscapes Field Construction worked tirelessly through snow, rain, and other inclement weather to install what will now be called Ray and Bea Dillard Field at Ashmore Park.

Tomorrow’s game is scheduled for 3:30 pm against Northwood University. “It has been an exciting process from start to finish,” said Associate Athletic Director, Micah Sepko. “There have been some anxious moments but the guys from Sportsscapes did an incredible job despite some bad weather. I know our team, coaches, and fans are ready to play on the brand new surface.”

Dillard Field is the only artificial playing surface in the state of South Carolina and the beginning of a full renovation. The entire playing renovation of the playing surface included the turf, a clay pitching mound, new bullpens, and a new batting cage, all costing around 1.2-million dollars. The playing surface was completed this week with the batting cages and bullpens nearly completed.
