With the 2018 baseball season just around the corner, the North Greenville Crusaders will look to build off a 2017 season that produced 38 wins, the most under current head coach Landon Powell and the most by NGU since turning division 2 and joining the Conference of Carolinas. The 2018 team will see a number of new talented faces who will be expected to play big roles in the upcoming season.

"With a mix of both transfers and high school recruits, this recruiting class has the potential to achieve great things at NGU," Coach Powell explains. "We are excited to see them perform come Spring."


C John Jones – Senior from Oviedo, FL (transfer from University of South Carolina)

  • Switch Hitting Catcher who made the All-Star team in the Florida Collegiate Wood Bat league
  • Played in 82 games over the last two years for the Gamecocks
  • Was NCAA National Player of the Week, and SEC Player of the Week twice

SS Utah Jones - Junior from Stillwater, OK (transfer from University of North Carolina)

  • Switch Hitting SS, played this summer in the CPL for the Savannah Bananas
  • Brother, Ryder Jones, currently plays in the MLB for the San Francisco Giants

OF Jeffrey Chandler Jr. – Junior from Scottsdale, AZ (transfer from Gateway Community College, AZ)

  • In two years at Gateway, played in 108 games and posted a .324 AVG and .435 OBP
  • Athletic Outfielder who led Gateway CC to the 2016 Junior College World Series

INF Jared Williams - Gilbert, SC (transfer from University of South Carolina Lancaster)

  • Led USC-Lancaster with .400 AVG in 2017, along with 11 HR’s, 15 2B’s and 27 Stolen Bases
  • Made 2nd Team All-American in JUCO in 2017
  • Played in 16 games for the USC Gamecocks in 2016, before transferring to USC-L

RHP Francisco Fernandez – Junior from Boynton Beach, FL (Hillsborough Community College)

  • Made 17 appearances for Hillsborough Community College in 2017, recording a 3.25 ERA
  • Made the All-Star team in the Valley Collegiate Wood bat league during the summer

INF John Mastrangelo - Hamilton, NJ (Harford Community College)

  • In 2 years at Harford, hit .321 with a total of 24 HRs, 18 2B’s, and 91 RBI’s
  • Switch Hitting third baseman, won a Rawlings Gold Glove his Freshman year for defensive play

RHP Brent Herlong – Freshman from Dillon, SC (Lake View High School)

  • High School Sports Report All-State at Lake View High School
  • Most Outstanding Pitcher for Florence Post 1 Legion baseball team in 2016 and 2017

RHP Kipp Rollings – Junior from Kershaw, SC (University of South Carolina Lancaster)

  • Made 13 appearances as a starter and reliever for USC Lancaster in 2017
  • Named All-State his senior year at Andrew Jackson High School

OF Toby Sponseller – Junior from East Berlin, PA (Harford Community College)

  • In 2 years at Harford, he hit an impressive .395 with 15 Homeruns
  • The speedy outfielder also stole 36 bases, only being thrown out twice

C Lex Tuten – Freshman from Johnsonville, SC (Johnsonville High School)

  • Switch Hitting Catcher, was the MVP for Post 1 Legion team
  • Played Quarterback for Johnsonville High School’s football team
  • Cousin of former NGU women's soccer player Lindsay Tuten

INF Connor Driscoll – Sophomore from Ridgeland, SC (Daytona State College)

  • Hit .270 with 2 HRs for the Seaside Sand Gnats of the Cal Ripken Wood Bat Summer League
  • Played in 29 games and had a .277 AVG in 2017 at Daytona State College

INF Cameron Norgren – Freshman from Cary, NC (Panther Creek High School)

  • Hit .403 his senior year at Panther Creek High School
  • Switch hitting 3B, was ranked #20 overall prospect and #2 3B in North Carolina by Perfect Game

OF Jack Morris – Junior from Ruckersville, VA (transfer from Liberty University)

  • In 2 years at Liberty, played in 72 games, hitting .253 with a .368 OBP, 4 HR’s and 8 2B’s
  • Played High School baseball for former MLB All-Star pitcher Billy Wagner

OF Josh Senter – Freshman from Lexington, SC (River Bluff High School)

  • Athletic outfielder played baseball and football at River Bluff High School
  • Honorable mention for 2017 All-Midland’s baseball team
  • Second team All-Lexington County Chronicle

INF Dawson Price – Freshman from Sumter, SC (Sumter High School)

  • Made All-Region and the North/South All-Star team in HS
  • Played SS for Sumter Post 15 legion team

RHP Stephen Kight – Freshman from Lexington, SC (River Bluff High School)

  • 2017 Lexington County Chronicle Player of the Year
  • Delivered the game winning hit in the first game of the 5A SC State Championship
  • Brother of current NGU baseball player, Daniel Kight

INF Ethan Struthers – Freshman from Goose Creek, SC (Stratford High School)

  • Team captain and starting SS at Stratford High School
  • Finished senior season with .411 AVG and .528 OBP
  • Made All-Region

RHP Shane Adwell – Freshman from Tampa, FL (Tampa Catholic High School)

  • Versatile Right Handed pitcher who can start or relieve
  • Played showcase baseball for Tampa Crush

LHP Kaleb Gibson – Freshman from Walterboro, SC (Colleton County High School)

  • Versatile Left Handed Pitcher
  • Played Showcase baseball for the Carolina Cougars


The 2018 baseball season will begin in Tigerville on February 3rd as the Crusaders will open up the season against Paine College.
