Elon, NC - NGU began postseason play in dominating fashion as the Crusaders shut out the Erskine Flying Fleet 9-0. Connor Grant, Bennette Hill, and Eric Gilbert each recorded two hits. Tucker Burgess pitched seven shutout innings and earned his ninth win of the season. He allowed six hits and one walk while striking out one.
The Crusaders waiting until the second inning to produce runs. With two runners on base, Clark Scolamiero singled to right field to bring in Josh Black. Two more runs would score when Grant doubled down the left field line to score Scolamiero and Gilbert.
Andrew Frazier brought in the fourth run for NGU in the fifth inning with a double down the right field line.
After a pitching change with the bases loaded, Grant walked to bring in Gilbert. With the bases still loaded and two outs, Hill would put away the game for good with a bases-clearing single down the right field line to put North Greenville up 8-0.
An insurance run scored in the bottom of the eighth inning when Hill scored Grant with an RBI double down the right field line.
Jared Lembcke, who came in to relieve Burgess, pitched the final two innings to seal the win for the Crusaders.
North Greenville will play Belmont Abbey tomorrow with a scheduled start time of 7:00 PM. The location of the game will depend on the field conditions in Burlington.
