SWEEP! Crusaders Wrap Up Regular Season With Fifth Conference Series Sweep

Tigerville, SC - Landon Powell achieved his 100th and 101st victories as the Crusaders swept Barton at Ashmore Field this afternoon. North Greenville finishes the regular season with an astonishing 21-1 record at home and winning 15 of 17 games to finish the season. Kyle Kadlub and Zak Kamerman received wins while Bennette Hill had an impressive day at the plate with five his in eight at-bats including a three-run home run. Ryan Brown also had a noteworthy day with three hits in five at-bats including a two-run home run.

 

Canaan Cropper got the start in the 7-inning Game 1. He pitched five innings allowing four hits, four earned runs, three walks, and three strikeouts. He received a no-decision.

In a common occurance this season, NGU scored in the first inning. With the bases loaded, Frazier came through with a single to left field to score two runs.

The Bulldogs took the lead in the top of the second by scoring three runs including a two-run home run by Shawn Montren.

Barton added another run in the top of the third when Calvin Hawke stole three bases, including home.

North Greenville would go on to score one run in each of the remaining innings. In the fourth, Eric Gilbert hit an RBI groundout to second base. With a runner at second in the fifth inning, Hill singled through the left side to to tie the game. An RBI double to right center by Clark Scolamiero in the sixth would give the Crusaders the lead late in the game.

With two outs in the seventh, Andrew Webster connected with a clutch home run to tie the game once again for the Bulldogs. With the bases loaded and one out, Josh Black became the hero with a sacrifice fly to center field to win the game for NGU. The win is Landon Powell's 100th of his young coaching career. Kyle Kadlub, who pitched the final two innings, received the win.

 

Game 2 had only one half-inning that produced runs, which belonged to North Greenville. Zak Kamerman started the game for the Crusaders. He pitched seven innings allowing four hits, no runs, two walk, and four strikeouts.

After the first two innings went scoreless, North Greenville produced six runs in the bottom of the third. The runs began with a two-run home run to right field by Brown. With two runners on base later in the inning, Hill would connect with a home run of his own, hitting a three-run shot to right field. With two runners on base yet again, Brandon Odachowski added the sixth run with a sacrifice fly to center field.

Pitching would take over for the remainder of the game. Barton loaded the bases in the sixth and got two runners in scoring position in the ninth, but the Crusaders were able to work out of the jams and complete the sweep.

 

North Greenville finishes the regular season with an overall record of 37-13 and a 20-7 conference record and a second place finish in the conference standings. The Crusaders move into postseason play in the Conference Carolinas Baseball Tournament, which takes place in Burlington, NC. The first game is scheduled for Thursday.
