HIGH POINT, N.C. – King University's J.P. Castaneda was named the Conference Carolinas Baseball Player of the Week, while North Greenville University's Tucker Burgess earned the Conference Carolinas Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played Mar. 27 - Apr. 2, the Conference announced today.
A sophomore from Liberty, S.C., Burgess went the distance for the Crusaders in a 1-0 victory over Erskine. In nine innings of work, Burgess scattered six hits and issued one walk while striking out nine batters. Burgess is the second NGU hurler to earn the honor this year following Cannan Cropper's nod in week five.
Castaneda, a junior from Miami, Fla., batted .600 with 12 hits and seven RBI to lead the Tornado to a 3-1-1 record last week. In a one-run loss, Castaneda had his finest performance, going 5-for-5 with a double, two stolen bases and one run scored.
