North Greenville Offense Held in Check by Mount Olive to Begin Series

Mount Olive, NC - The Trojans of Mount Olive held off the Crusaders to remain unbeaten in the Conference Carolinas standings. North Greenville rallied in the ninth by scoring a run and loading the bases, but came up just short to fall to the Trojans. NGU finished the game with five hits and went 0-5 with runners in scoring position while UMO had ten hits and went 1-8 with runners in scoring position. 

Tucker Burgess started for the Crusaders. He pitched seven strong innings and allowed just one earned run, but was charged with his first loss of the season. Bruce Zimmerman, who started the game for Mount Olive, received his sixth win of the season. He pitch 8.2 innings and allowed no earned runs. Zach Mozingo started the game as a designated hitter but was moved to pitcher with two outs in the ninth and earned his eighth save of the season.

Mount Olive got off to a fast start in the first with a solo home run to left field by Trae Sweeting.

Pitching would dominate until the bottom of the eighth when UMO's Tony Salvaggio came through with an RBI single to right field to bring in their second run of the game.

The Crusaders were able to get on the board in the ninth when Ryan Brown reached on an error that allowed Connor Grant to score. The bases were eventually loaded for Andrew Meadows, but a strikeout ended the rally and the game.

With loss, North Greenville falls to 22-9 overall and 9-4 in conference play while Mount Olive improves to 26-5 overall and a perfect 13-0 in conference play. The two teams will face off tomorrow in a doubleheader beginning at noon.
