SWEEP! North Greenville Takes Conference Series Against Belmont Abbey
  1. Tigerville, SC - North Greenville has improved to 15-4 and 5-1 in conference play afer sweeping the Belmont Abbey Crusaders. The Crusaders are currently third in the Conference Carolinas standings, and are currently on a seven-game winning streak.

Game 1 saw complete games pitched by the starters for both teams; Canaan Cropper for North Greenville and Cameron Busby for Belmont Abbey.

North Greenville scored their first run of the game in the bottom in the first when Nathaniel Maggio hit a ground-rule double to right center field. Ryan Brown would add a run in the seventh with a solo home run to right field.

Maggio, Brown, Connor Grant, and Andrew Plunkett produced one hit each.

Cropper's outing was a very strong one, giving up no runs and striking out ten. He received the win while Busby was charged with the loss.

Game 2 saw a healthy number of runs for both teams.

Blake Hamilton was given the start for NGU and Jeff Thompson started the game for BAC.

Belmont Abbey got the ball rolling in the first inning with a two-run home run to left field by Colin Rosenbaum. North Greenville responded in the bottom of the inning with Connor Grant scoring on a wild pitch.

BAC added two more runs in the top of the second. With a runner on second base, Joshua Genthe drove the ball to right field for an RBI ground-rule double. The next batter, Kennan Stanley, would hit an RBI double of his own to make the score 4-1 in favor of Belmont Abbey.

In the bottom of the third, North Greenville produced three runs through a sacrifice fly by Andrew Frazier and a two-run inside the park home run by Ryan Brown to tie the game at 4-4.

Both teams would add a run in the fourth, with North Greenville's run being a solo home run by Brandon Odachowski.

BAC would take a healthy lead in the sixth inning with five runs scored by way of a two-run home run by Rosenbaum and a bases-clearing triple by Stanley.

It only took an inning and a half for North Greenville to strike back. An RBI single by Maggio scored the first run of the inning for NGU. Andrew Frazier would come through with an RBI single of his own. Then a 2-RBI single by Josh Black would make the score 10-9 BAC. With two outs in the inning and the bases loaded, Clark Scolamiero doubled to right field to score two runs and give NGU its first lead of the game. Connor Grant would then add to the North Greenville lead with a 2-RBI triple to left field to increase the lead to three runs.

Belmont Abbey would load the bases in the top of the ninth, but would come up empty in the inning, ending the game and completing the series sweep for NGU.

Trent Spikes received the win while Sam Luchansky was charged with the loss. Clark Scolamiero, who only pitched the final out of the game, earned the save.

North Greenville will have a busy upcoming week beginning with a trip to Lexington, SC to play Newberry College. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
